Law firm websites

Web design for attorneys

Web design for attorneys is a trust problem before it is a design problem, because someone choosing a lawyer is deciding whether to hand a stranger the worst week of their life.

Law firm websites

What you get. How it works.

What a potential client is checking

A prospective client lands on a firm's site with a short, specific list. Does this firm handle my exact matter. Do they practise where my case is. Have they handled cases like mine. Can I afford to ask. How quickly will someone respond. A site that answers those five things clearly outperforms a far prettier one that leads with a stock photo of a courthouse and a paragraph about zealous advocacy.

Each practice area therefore gets its own page written in plain language: what the process usually looks like, what the firm does at each stage, what the client is responsible for, typical timelines, and how fees work — hourly, flat, contingency, or a consultation fee that is credited. Vague fee language is one of the most common reasons a visitor closes the tab without contacting anyone.

Attorney biographies do real work here. Admissions, years in practice, courts appeared in, bar associations, teaching or publications, and a photograph that looks like a person rather than a catalogue. Small firms win on being identifiable; hiding the individuals behind firm-speak throws that advantage away.

Consultation intake done carefully

The intake path is designed to be easy to start and safe to use. A short first step collects only what is needed to route the enquiry: name, contact method, matter type, jurisdiction and a brief description. It is paired with clear language that submitting a form does not create an attorney-client relationship and that sensitive details should wait for a privileged conversation — plainly worded, not buried in six-point type.

Scheduling can be offered for firms that take consultations by appointment, with the fee, duration and format stated in advance. For firms that prefer to screen first, the form routes to a callback instead. Either way the site tells the visitor what happens next and roughly when, which removes the most common source of drop-off after a form is filled in.

Confidentiality-aware handling continues behind the form: submissions go to the addresses the firm nominates, attachments are handled through signed links rather than public URLs, and no case detail is exposed in analytics. Advertising and solicitation rules vary by state, so claims, testimonial handling and any required disclaimers are placed where your bar's guidance expects them, with the final wording reviewed by the firm.

Local search for a small firm

Legal search phrases are competitive and expensive, which makes structure important. One page per practice area, one page per location where the firm genuinely operates, and honest specifics in both. A page for family law in a named county that speaks to that county's process is far more likely to earn its ranking than a general page claiming statewide coverage.

The Google Business Profile carries substantial weight for legal searches, so it is connected to the site and reconciled: categories per practice area, correct office address and hours, and consistent name and phone. Review requests should be handled in whatever way your jurisdiction permits, and the site should make the resulting reviews easy to find.

Content that answers early questions — what a first consultation costs, what to bring, how long a matter usually takes — attracts people who have not yet chosen a firm and links them to the practice-area pages that convert. Starter is $600 to start and then $99 a month with the first month free. Standard is $900 to start and then $149 a month, adding more pages, a page for each town served, and same-day edits. The business owns the website and the domain, there is no contract, and cancelling the monthly plan does not take the site away.

Questions

Straight answers before you start

Can the site take confidential case details?

The intake form collects only what is needed to route an enquiry, with clear wording that submitting it does not create an attorney-client relationship and that sensitive details belong in a privileged conversation.

Do you handle bar advertising requirements?

Disclaimers, testimonial handling and claim wording are placed where your state's guidance expects them, and the final language is always reviewed and approved by the firm.

How many practice area pages should we have?

One per area you genuinely want cases in. Starter covers five pages; Standard covers ten plus a page for each location, which suits firms with several practice areas.

Can clients book consultations online?

Yes, with the fee, duration and format shown up front — or the form can route to a callback if the firm prefers to screen enquiries first.
